to a class of 28 young
people in the village of
Chujulimul near
Chichicastenango.
The emphasis of these
classes was to give
them a head start on
the English they will
need to work in the
tourist industry.
In 2008, 3 North American volunteers visited. They brought two donated computers
which will facilitate communication with Co-partners' headquarters. They will also be
used to teach women and children word processing and basic computer
communication skills.
Our group also delivered training in health and first-aid.
In 2009, a Co-Partners volunteer, working in cooperation with the self-help organization
ASDECO (Association for Community Development) in "Chichi" counseled organization
leaders on improving their funding opportunities. Other volunteers spent two weeks in a
nearby rural community giving local young people a head start in learning the English
that they will need to find jobs in the tourist industry.
Other activites:
 | | Volunteers created an exhibit of their photos of their visit, called Caras de Kiché, |
| | at a café in Silver Spring, Maryland. The opening was attended by 50 people who were eager to hear about Co-partners' efforts in Guatemala.
|
 | | A member who visited last year was able to sell some of the embroideries made |
| | in Chichi at a local craft market. From customer comments, she has been able to determine where the potential is for more items.

their real names) are child
sellers in the famous crafts
market of Chichicastenango.
Because their families need the
money they make, they may be
held out of school. Co-Partners
provides school kits and
encouragement to children like
them and their families, which
is an effective way tto improve
the chance that they will go to
school.
